#TipfulTuesday: From Our Thanksgiving Meal To Yours

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of the year to share with family & friends. A time to count your blessings in life and not the calories. This Thanksgiving we would like to share a few of our family recipes with you:

 

Cream Cheese Corn

Ingredients:

  • 3 packages of frozen corn (10.8 oz bags)
  • 2 8oz packages of cream cheese (cut into cubes)
  • 1 white onion (chopped)
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • Salt & pepper for flavoring

Directions:

  1. In a medium sauce pan sauté onions and butter. 
  2. Once onions are softened add in cream cheese cubes. Allow to soften for a couple of minutes.
  3. After the cream cheese has softened stir in the three bags of frozen corn. Cover with lid and  lower heat. Stir occasionally until corn has fully cooked. 
  4. Stir in a dash of salt and pepper for flavoring.
  5. Once cooked remove from heat and place in serving dish.

 

Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melt, plus more for buttering the baking dish
  • 3 cups of mashed sweet potatoes (3-4 large sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla pure extract
  • 2 cups of mini marshmallows

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  2. Place the sweet potatoes in a Dutch oven, and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes or until very tender. Drain; cool slightly.
  3. Place potatoes in a large bowl. Add sugar and next 3 ingredients (through vanilla). Mash sweet potato mixture with a potato masher. Fold in 1/4 cup pecans. Scrape potato mixture into an even layer in an 11 x 7-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup pecans; top with marshmallows. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes or until golden.

 

Chocolate Pecan Pie- Paula Deen’s Recipe 

Ingredients:

  • 1 (9in) unbaked pie shell
  • 2 cups of pecan  halves
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon, good-quality
  • 3 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°.
  2. Cover bottom of pie crust with pecans.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and melted butter. Add the corn syrup, sugar, bourbon and the chopped chocolate. Stir until all ingredients are combined. Pour mixture into the pie shell over the pecans and place on a heavy-duty cookie sheet.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to 350° and continue to bake for an additional 25 minutes or until pie is set. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time of the year, it is a time to gather with your family and friends to be thankful of the many blessings in your life. We love this centerpiece and it is super simple to recreate. You just need some glass vases, rice, branches, and some fall artificial pumpkins.

#TipfulTuesday: First Thanksgiving as a Married Couple

Are you hosting your first Thanksgiving as a married couple this year? Well if so we have some friendly tips for you to keep in mind while planning.

 Thanksgiving turkey

  1. Guest Count: Be sure you know who all is coming, this way you will be able to set enough place settings, have enough to drink, and prepare plenty of Turkey!
  2. The Meal: If you plan on cooking your first turkey EVER be sure to ask for your family members help. Your mom or grandma will have awesome recipes and suggestions for you. Do not feel like you need to make every single item that each family member loves, it is you home and you are creating a new tradition. Let mom or grandma make their favorite dish, take the helping hand.
  3. Table Setting: Although it is all about the delicious feast you are preparing you still need to showcase your beautiful home and the new china dishes you registered for. Be sure to set your table with a tablecloth, silverware and napkins. Look on Pinterest for some easy DIY table centerpieces.
  4. Set a Time: Let your guest know what time dinner will be served, invite them over an hour or two before. Be sure to have a dip or some sort of appetizer out for them to pick out as they converse among each other. Set wine or your signature drink with glasses out for them to serve themselves.
  5. After Dinner: Do not worry about cleaning your entire kitchen right away; entertain your guest with games or just conversation. Everyone tends to go back for seconds an hour later anyways so have the food easily accessible.
